It has been brought to my attention that some YOU are "Hill-ibtiries". Maybe you don't see yourself this way but I know some of you are!

Here's what I need from those of you who are well known on the hill: a short bio of yourself that says how you are known on Capitol Hill. What you do/who you are/what you are about!

Please help me!

Thanks,

Lancer

Starting today, half of all services booked on THURSDAYS, up until October 4th, will be donated to the 2008 Lifelong AIDS Walk. So if you need a haircut stop by and get a haircut. Call first and make an appointment.

*snickers* I am glad I am not the only entity that has had to go through a name change in the past few years. The salon I work at is now "Emerson Institute of Style", or "Emerson Salon" for short. The theme of the salon is "Steampunk"; the idea of our new salon owner Alex. Rusty and I are still working at the salon, as employees. We like the look of the remodel so far and are excited for future things to come!

Our grand re-opening is Thursday, August 15th, to be celebrated on the evening prior, August 14th, at 7:00 p.m. at the salon.

Our new owner of Pandemos Salon, Alex Garcia, is remodeling the salon this week. The salon will reopen on Sunday, July 17th! See you then!

We have a new owner of the salon that I work at. His name is Alex Garcia. We met at the Cyndi Lauper concert where I chatted him and his partner up because they looked so cute together. It turns out he is a marketing guy and , though he has never owned a salon, is excited to work with us to get the salon rocking!

A bit of remodeling will occur soon- the floor will be fixed first because it really needs it. Rusty and I will continue to work there until Alex gets tired of us (hopefully never in my case!), as his employees. This means that I can stay where I am at and will have less business expenses, as I will be an employee. I will keep my business licenses up to date and my website but will not have to worry about having my own insurance anymore nor coming up with a set amount of rent for my workspace every month.

Yay for youthful excited investors! We are all trying to come up with a new name for the salon...feel free to suggest a name for our salon and I will pass it along to the powers-that-be!

I was at the Cyndi Lauper and B-52s concert Tusday July 1st and Carson Kressley, the host, was complaining about his haircut not being edgy enough and his hair spray not being humidity-resistant! I do NOT believe this- he has enough resources to get what he wants- I think it was part of his act!

Carson, if you WERE serious, the next time you are in Seattle, make an appointment with me and I will help you out!

Thinning Hair Problems [Jul. 24th, 2007|10:41 pm]
Female hair loss affects 1/3 of all women. This can appear anywhere on the body; not just on the head.

Most women experience this after menopause, but for a few, the effects can begin as early as puberty.

There ARE options.

I will distinguish when my clients' hair is going through its growth cycle and shedding naturally from when they are losing hair strands that aren't growing back. Typically, hair sheds about 100 strands a day.

Hair grows at a rate of 1 cm. per month. The strand of hair continues to grow for approximately 5-10 years in the anagen stage. Once the hair is a the end of this phase, it will remain dormant in the catagen phase for 2-4 weeks. In the catagen phase, hair neither grows nor sheds. In the final telogen, aka shedding phase, a new hair strand has started to grow in the hair follicle, thus pushing the old strand out. The reason we see shedding at the rate of 100 strands per day is that our follicles do not grow and shed in unison.

Hair gets brushed, styled, shampooed, cut, colored, permed, and/or straightened during its life. NONE of these practices affect the growth of the hair bulb. They may severely damage the hair, leading to breakage, yet will not induce baldness nor permanent hair loss.

When follicles can't produce new strands or the diameter becomes restricted, hair will become sparse and thin.

Factors that cause this:
1) Temporary: certain medications, excess stress, infection, illness, childbirth and poor dietary habits. These can occasionally lead to thinning hair. These foundations stop the follicle from producing new hair shafts temporarily.

Most permanent hair loss is caused by the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which clogs and takes over the follicles. DHT is a hereditary hormone found in male pattern baldness and is now linked to female pattern baldness. DHT is formed when alpha-5 reductase (an enzyme) merges with testosterone. DHT interrupts the normal cycle of hair by latching on to the receptor sites along the scalp, ceasing future hair growth.

If you begin to see thinning hair or baldness:
1) See a doctor or a dermatologist
2) Find medical treatments, while also...
3) Explore creative options with your stylist, rather than seeking over-the-counter or DIY remedies.
